For those looking for greater capacity, I have tried a pair of these WD Red 6 TB drives in my DNS-325 A1 firmware 1.05 in RAID 0, RAID 1, and JBOD.  The drives were recognized and formatted and then 125GB of video files were transfered in all successfully.  The UPNP server needed to be refreshed after each transfer although it was already enabled and then successfully streamed the videos without issue.  You get just under 11TB's in JBOD and RAID 0, half of that in RAID 1.
UPDATE: I have moved about 4.2TB of files onto the 325 in Raid 0 and have been using it to stream videos for about a week at this point and no issues have arisen.  I did have an issue with getting the drives properly setup, as I had been testing these drives on multiple devices / manufacturers, and forgot to delete all the volumes and partitions before starting out.  Once I deleted this and installed as a bare drive all went smoothly.

How are your HDDs holding up? What is your daily throughput for these HDDs?

I just purchased two WD60EFRX 6TB (Red) for one of my DNS-345, which is essentially the same as the DNS-325 save the extra two bays.  I've read a number of user reviews stating that these new HDDs have a rather high failure rate (either DOA or failing within weeks after purchase). For new purchasers, I suggest performing some heavy burn-in for the first month or so to make sure the HDDs are working properly. My intention is to schedule full backups across both HDDs multiple times per day for a month to properly burn-in the new HDDs. I'm also going to stream a BD movie on a repeating loop for a few days to tax the HDDs a bit.

Regarding the setup issues you've had, my intention is to configure these HDDs as Standard Volumes, so I don't foresee any challenges.

Not that this is an issue for the DNS-325 (yet), but I believe the Linux filesystem used on the ShareCenter has a maximum Volume size cap of 16TB. While this is not currently an issue for the DNS-325, it means that four 6TB Reds can't be used to make a 24TB JBOD or RAID-5 array on the DNS-345.  Hitachi recently released an 8TB He HDD, which will prove interesting once the prices come down to something approaching reasonableness.

No change in status, still working fine, just a couple hundred more GB's of data added over the last couple of months. Currently I have 4.4TB in a Raid 0 running 24/7 and use this to stream videos daily.  Firmware is 1.05.

I installed two WD Red 6TB HDDs in two DNS-345 configured as Standard Volumes and the formatting completed without any issues. Both HDDs passed quick SMART testing. I copied ~1.5 TB of data two each of the two HDDs and am not conducting burn-in testing via persistent streaming. Thus far the HDDs couldn't be performing better (fingers crossed!).

After 5-1/2 months of persistent use, my two WD 6TB Reds are operating flawlessly.  I couldn't be happier.

I presume that if the 6TB size drives worked for Java, the 4TB should as well.
