Help with reconnection
« on: July 17, 2009, 02:27:22 PM »

I tried the search for this, but I am far from much of the computer lingo I have seen here. My problem is that I had to reformat my hard drive in my laptop last night due to an error with the drive. Laptop works fine now, but I am having trouble getting it to reconnect to the router. I have tried the CD wizard that came with the router but it gets to step 3 of 6 and then says that there is a connection problem. When I try to go to Connection and then click on my router it asks for a passphrase. I do not know the passphrase.

When I try to get to the router through it's internet number, it also asks for a password, which I do not know.

Am I just screwed or is there any help to get the passphrase and/or password?

The password to access the router was set up by the person who originally set up the router.  If you do not know the password, you will need to follow the "factory default" reset steps.  This will usually "erase" all settings stored on the router and revert the password back to D-Link's default one.  (Note this will also erase the wireless passphrase.)

If you locate the password, you can access the wireless network setting, on the router, and replace the wireless network passphrase.
