Nas 320L and HD Usb

Last firmware 1.06b03
I plug the USB HD and the blue light turn On. In the console I set the backup Nas to Usb, and it gives error 2 or 8.
I tried to click the button on the nas for activate USB. Nothing happens. If I keep pressed the usb button on the Nas for 5 second, the HD Usb turn off. I can not to turn on again.

I am thinking this product is not good.

Any suggestion? Thanks.

  • What region are you located?

What is the Mfr of the USB drive?
What is the size of the USB drive?
Does the USB drive have it's own power supply adapter?

Where are you seeing the error codes? On the DNS?
Is there any error code information in the user manual?
Try a different USB drive to see if problem still happens?

1 tb. I tried with fat32 and Ntfs.
Doen't have power supply adapter.

The message error in in the usb configuration on the Nas.

Yes I'll try. But with the 320LW the same hard disk works good.

Your problem is the fact that your USB drive does not have an external power supply and is trying to pull power from the NAS USB port. 

Since the NAS USB port was never designed to supply the power required for external drives. 

Your plugging in the external drive is forcing the USB subsystem of the NAS to shut down because of low voltage - it can also cause problems with other parts of the NAS circuits.

As far as I know it is but we have found far too many USB disk drives that rely on power from the USB port asking for much more than the standard.  While many computer motherboards are quite happy to supply the extra small NAS boxes tend to able to just supply the standard (all of them are quite happy with large capacity USB sticks and disks with external power supplies, even a powered hub can help with power hungry self powered disks).
