Hello,
How can I give absolute priority to Steam In-Home Streaming?
This is for streaming a live game between 2 local PCs - the server is wired and the client is on WIFI.
Most of the time I have a very good connection, but there are sometimes harsh drops. Starting another laptop (on WIFI) can momentarily cause an interference  so strong that the client game just closes itself (maybe thinking that it has lost connection).
Can the QOS also work for local streaming?
Is there a way to give absolute priority to Steam In-Home Streaming? Or to the client. (There is only one client)

• What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
• Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
• What region are you located?

What wireless modes are you using on the 645? Mixed or single?
What security mode are you using? WPA2 and AES only is preferred.

IF your streaming and gaming locally then I would recommend maybe using all LAN wired connections for best performances. Wireless will not have the same performances as wired LAN GB connections. Also an addition of a external Gb LAN network switch is recommended as well.

QoS is for up link traffic out to the WAN/Internet.

If your noticing some issues on wireless, possible that the connections and bandwidth maybe exceeding what the router can handle. 2.4ghz is good for most things, however when it comes to streaming any video or gaming, 5Ghz would be preferred if you can't do wireless.

You can add 5Ghz to this router if you want to continue to use the 645 as a main host router. Any 5Ghz supporting wired AP like D-Links DAP model units can be added to the router. Even a DIR series router with 5ghz wireless can be connected to the 645 and used as a wireless AP:

I use a older model DIR series router once in a while and connect my DIR-890L AC class wireless router up as an AP to it for better wifi support.

Purchased USA, used Europe. Correct channels.
Right now uses N+G, but thinking about it, I think I can make it N only.
Sure WPA2 + AES.
I understand wired is best, but it is very difficult adding wired LAN to the place of the client. 5GHz routers are quite scarce here and problematic to import, so I will have to wait with that for some time.
We don't put much on our network. Most of the time I can even choose Steam's highest quality settings – it reports about 25mbps used and estimates network speed at 100mb and it runs perfectly, but 2-3 times I tried turning on a laptop and it caused a freeze that kicked us out of the game. Afterwards, it is ok again. Turning off the laptop, there is a smaller interference. Another day it would have bad interference every few minutes. And that is all for medium quality, at about 15mbps.
Any further advice?

You could try getting a power line unit between the router and your laptop and this would help get the laptop connected via LAN wired.

Is the FW thats loaded from an EU regional D-Link support site?

Sadly, here too I can only buy the unfiltered, ungrounded type with no socket, as the grounded socket shape does not match. And that too I need to buy abroad. We only have the unfiltered "500" speed locally - a friend has them and they disconnect often.

I recall carefully choosing the firmware according to online instructions, but I am not sure what it was.
Is there anything that can cause the sudden high lags, like maybe the automatic wifi settings for speed and bandwidth? Could the switching do that? Is it better to choose fixed ones or to leave as automatic?
What's the best way to test wifi speed over time?

• Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by that maybe causing interferences?
• Any other WiFi routers in the area that maybe causing interferences? Link> Use a WiFi Scanner to find out. How many?
• If you have any of these options, Try turning OFF or ON Short GI, WLAN Partition, Extra Wireless Protection and HT 20/40 Co-existence if you have it. Also testing with HT20/40Mhz Co-existence enabled will impact results as well. I prefer to use this option OFF. Recommended settings are default. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

What channel are you currently using? I recommend manually setting channel 1, 6 11 or 13 if there not being used by others near by.

If you set single mode N, you can disable 20/40Mhz Coexistence as well.

Definitely use N only, not N+G as the throughput is higher. Also, change your DNS to a faster more reliable one such as OpenDNS: 208.67.222.222 , 208.67.220.220
