Hi,

I'm trying to read my HDD outside of my DNS 320 on Ubuntu. I understand it's formatted in Linux, what I don't understand is why it can't be read by Linux.

My experience consists of connecting it, and seeing a partition of 524MB much like this guy:

Any reason why I only see the operating system and not the data?

BE sure Ubuntu is supporting of EXT3 format. Thats the format the DNS drives are using.

I know I had to install EXT3/4 drivers in windows for my DNS and the drives are accessible outside the DNS. I put one of mine in a USB 3.0 caddy and it was fully readable.

Completely agree, hence why I'm here
Only the NAS OS partition shows up. Is it possible I could need to mount the storage partition? I've put it back in the DNS and it's visible/accessible.
I unlocked the criptor stuff with a Pi, and replaced my network components. I don't want that NAS on the new network. Still have the old network available to try stuff.

Hows it's being ready by Linux is up to that. Not sure why the other partition is not being seen, however if you were effected by the Cryptor malware, anything is possible. Possible that the partition is damaged in some way.
Are you directly connecting the drive to a SATA port or using a USB caddy/case? I used a case for the drive I tested. I was not effected by the Cryptor malware.

Try a windows PC with EXT3/4 drivers loaded and a USB caddy or case.

it's a USB caddy as per the link in the first post.

If the partition was damaged though - wouldn't that mean I couldn't see it when it's in the NAS? When I put the drive in the NAS,  I can view and access the data just fine.

Something either in Linux or the caddy and the drive isn't working.
Try a different PC or Windows PC and see.

A question I should have asked earlier. How are the drives in your unit formatted?

If it is anything other than RAID 1 or single disks you are going to need special software to read the software RAID , just reading the disk will not provide the necessary information.
