Nope. I am using Windows 7 beta with UAC and Windows firewall disabled. I have no firewall. I have AVG Free.

Try a complet deinstall of AVG Free. Apart from the fact it kinda sucks from an AV perspective (it's free and that's about all the benefit it will bring you) it will even be active when 'deactivated'. Nowadays those AV proggies need to protect against scripts that just turn it off.

Live one care is pretty basic in it's functionality I'll agree. As a virus scanner it's super light on the system, and I don't have to allocate much resources to it. What it IS good for, is centralized management of the PC's on my network and allows me to make sure they all have proper updates. It also notifies me of apps trying to hit the NIC, thats really all I care to use it for. I have the backup and virus scanner turned off.

I might be wrong, but having all those ports (1-50000?) might be screwing the router up as well as leaving you open for attack.

I run a LOT of multiplayer games online and I just use UPnP. Game installs should check the firewall. I am also running Steam games (including HL2) on Windows 7 64 bit.

Try removing all your port forward rules, swithc on UPnP on the router AND in windows (you need to go to control panel, add/remove programs, then click windows components, then tick the box for UPnp) then try running your games.

I would seriously NOT recommend leaving all those ports open the way you have done it.

Having these ports open does not cause a major threat by definition. Only when a malicious app using one of these port is installed unconciously there is a security threat. That's why you really need a good AV proggie. But...I agree that usinf UPnP should be the way to go, although...malicious apps can also use the UPnP feature :-\

ICMP is just ping and does not have much to do with gaming or Steam unless you are running a server.

If you want to stop that error message go to Advanced > Advanced Network and tick the box next to Enable WAN Ping Response.
