New Win7 driver doesn't work.
« on: November 23, 2009, 09:32:30 AM »

I am looking for feedback to see if these problems with the DWA-140 are common and likely to be fixed by new drivers.  If not, I need to return my adapter and I will need to decide that before newer drivers are likely to be available.
:)    First, something positive.
D-Link is better than most in terms of access to tech support.  They haven't helped me much, but they certainly made a good effort.  Their resolve is enough to make me want to stay a D-Link customer even though I am still having a lot of problems.
 >:(    Now for the complaining.
I have version B of the DWA-140, and I am trying to use it in Win7 Ultimate, 64-bit.  My router is a DIR-615, which seems to be working fine on an XP machine.  I downloaded and installed the latest drivers for the adapter (v1.60), which supposedly works with Win7, 64-bit.  I was able to get connected once for just a minute or two, but after many hours uninstalling and re-installing I am getting nowhere.  Here are some of the symptoms:
*    I cannot connect -- other than that one experience.  Even disabling alll security doesn't seem to help.
*    Sometimes I can see my network, and sometimes I can't.
*    When I have the adapter installed, it runs very slow.  Boot up and shutdown take about 15 minutes compared to 2 minutes without the adapter.
*    When I first boot up and the adapter is looking for the networks, any software related to the network including the D-Link connection software and the installation wizard freezes.
:-*    To me, these problems look like they would probably be solved by new drivers, but I'm not real sure.  Please talk to me.

Where did you find the Windows 7 driver?  I can not find them on D-Link's web sites.

You might be looking for the DWA-140, which doesn't yet have a new driver, instead of the DWA-140 Rev B.

I have the 140verB and have tried the win7 driver from SG support page and no joy. It's been 24 hrs now of trying to get this thing to work and this is what's happens:
PC is a new i7 860 cpu build with Win7 oem.
After 3 attempts it worked for about an hour last night.  Then windows couldn't 'find' the device. Since then i've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers of all flavours, even the Ralink one and of course the win7 default.  They crash on installing, the light on the DWA 140 doesn't blink, and the win7 default causes teh machine to hang on shutdown.

Not buying dlink products again after this.  This is mature tech, Dlink's had plenty of time to sort this.  Even the win7 RC i out on my laptop 3 months ago worked straight away.

I have almost the same system as you.  I have Win7 Ultimate 64 bit, and the same processor.  D-Link told me that they were going to fix the driver soon, so I still have it.  I installed it on my XP machine, and it works beautifully.  I will be converting my XP machine to Win7, so I will be hosed if D-Link doesn't fix it, but I expect them to come through.  Luckily, I am in a situation where I can afford to wait.
I am running into a lot of unfinished driver problems with Win7.  I think that is typical for each new version of Windows for about 6 months after the release.  I'm going easy on D-Link because at least they will talk to me, and no one else seems to have good Win7 drivers either.

Go to the source........:-)   Ralinktech has them.

Their newest rt2870sta v. 2.3.0 (driver version for Linux) compiles and runs perfectly on the latest 2.6.32 kernels
(from Mepis and Sidux)
