DNS-323 has gone feral on the network!
« on: September 03, 2009, 04:22:07 PM »

Well Symantec thinks it has anyway...

We have Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 on a PC with a DNS-323 used for backups. It's only been installed for 4 days but Symantec is giving the warning "MS ASN1 Integer Overflow Detected" and the log is pointing to the DNS-323. The warning appears to be about a network intrusion.

The warning occurs every night about 5 minutes after the daily backup has finished. The backups are xcopy scripts and are working without any errors. I've checked the setup on the DNS-323 and all servers are turned off. I can't see anything that could be causing the problem. The DNS-323 has firmware v1.07.

We have a similar setup on several sites with DNS-323s and Symantec but I've never seen this error before. Obviously the DNS-323 isn't trying to hack the network, but something must be happening on it to make Symantec think there is an intrusion.

Any ideas what it might be?
