Thinking of buying for a specific use.
« on: August 03, 2009, 06:26:41 PM »

Yes, I have read the forums and I see this router gets a major negative feedback, is this all that needs to be known? Not quite.

The majority of the issues I see happening with this router are based on platform console machines and the wireless network, does anyone have ethernet connection problems running 1 or more PC's ONLY from the router via the ethernet ports with RJ45 cat5 cables?

Reason I am asking this is because I run 3 computers from home and am currently using a 504T-Gen III router and I notice a major bandwidth decrease when all 3 computers are on the internet. When its 1, its 100% fine, the router just can't do what needs to be done with 3 comps uploading through it.

For the most part, I am a avid gamer, all 3 comps are usually running the same program which is MMO based. When all 3 comps are running the same program ingame, I notice lag, big time. Have troubleshoot the thing to death and updated all the latest firmware, but this has been an ongoing issue for a long time now, I noticed it when I first got it, but I was well aware that it was a possibility to begin with.

So, I am basically wondering if anyone has success using a wired connection to a PC and not a console via wireless, I could careless about wireless, never liked it too begin with.

Is there any new routers out today that can handle the bandwidth of 3 computers being thrown at it?

 Cheers for the info.

I have ethernet issues with mine.  The router randomly reboots for no reason about 4 times a da, it locks up at least once every couple of days, and network speeds are down significanly over the DGL-4300 I gave away.  The only reason anyone would have to buy a DGL-4500 is if they needed an expensive and light doorstop.  DO NOT waste your money!

Are you connecting to the router via wireless means also along with your PC connected via ethernet cable?

I have one desktop connected via ethernet, an XBOX 360 connected through ethernet, 2 notebooks to try and connect wirelessly, a Nintendo Wii to try and connect wirelessly, and a Brother HL-4070CDW laser printer to try and connect wirelessly.  Even if I only try one of the notebooks and have every other wireless device off, it drops the wireless completely until rebooted.  Random reboots of the entire router and lock ups are all related to the DGL-4500 specifically and not my systems.

Yep, I understand that the DGL-4500 is renowned for its reboots, but I am wondering if its soley due to the fact of the wireless part of the router and was kinda hoping that a purely wired connection would still be suffice.

I live in Australia and have what we call ADSL 2+ connection here which is generally a 24meg connection and was wondering if the DGL-4100 would be a good router to use seeing I am not interested in the wireless features, but I can't seem to find any kind of information on the DGL-4100 as to what kind of bandwidth speed it is compatiable with.

After speaking with the Australian D-Link tech support today, I think I am going to buy a DGL-4100, there is basically no difference between to the two routers DGL-4100 and a DGL-4500 except for the fact that the DGL-4500 is key feature is its WI-FI and LCD screen.

I will say one thing though, I noticed on the Australian Firmware Download section, that the Firmaware for Australians is at 1.15b for the DGL-4500, I would buy a DGL-4500, but I can't be sure I will get a model that doesn't have the firmware already pre loaded that everyone is having issues with.

The fact that the DGL-4100 can be had for a mere $70 AU and the DGL-4500 would set me back $350 AU, I think I am going to try out the DGL-4100.

I might upgrade to the DGL-4500 or the DIR-855 when they sort the bugs out of them.

There just isn't enough Australian feed back on the two models to even remotely sway my decision as I can't find a Dlink aussie forums site.
