DIR-655 restarting issue.
« on: December 07, 2007, 07:45:36 AM »

As subject says I have a DIR-655 and use cox communications.  The problem I seem to have is that every 5-30 minutes the router will restart itself.  The internet will drop and all lights will shut off and turn back on resulting in it having to measure the internet connection and that takes about 2-3 minutes.  I've had this problem using default settings, wireless only, and wired only.  I was hoping someone might know if this is an actual problem with settings or firmware before I decide to RMA it.

Thanks.

What hardware and firmware version are you using?

Do you have and cordless phones near the unit?

What kind of modem?

A3 hardware, firmware 1.10  Do have a cordless but also tried with it unplugged and even by disabling wireless in the firmware.  Using a Toshiba pcx2500.
Don't have any of these issues on my old gigafast router but it doesn't support wireless.

I had this problem,   and D-link had me RMA the router,   so i sent it back,  got the new one,  upgraded to the newest firmware,. and blammo,  exact same problem,

i turned off wirless, and its been running fine for hours,  after rebooting every 5-10 minutes.

Unfortunately this is not really a solution, as i bought this unit specifically for the wireless N.

From reading on broadbandreports forums,  this is happening to many people,  so its obviously buggy firmware.

if this reboot is coming with a reset to factory settings, I'm getting this too. Personally I think it's a hardware issue, not firmware, otherwise no ones dir-655 would work normally. I'm really upset about this, because the router is more the 2x as costly as normal g routers and is not as dependable. I'm having a tough time getting d-link to rma it.

Ive never had trouble getting D-Link to RMA my products. Just make sure you're speaking with level 3 and someone who knows whats going on.

It could be hardware,  Mine was working just fine for months, the all of a sudden, whammo,  Now the RMA'd unit does the exact same thing (unless i turn off wireless)
