file transfer disconnections and low speed (smb/ftp)
« on: November 06, 2017, 12:47:45 AM »

Another problem with my NAS.

When I try to transfer files from my main PC to NAS after circa 20s it disconnects and after reconnection starts transfer again.

Problem is when I copy files by normal Windows explorator and by Filezilla and Multi Commander. Every 20s disconnection and retry to continue or restart of process. I had to set "reconnection tries" in Filezilla to 50 so I could transfer larger files.

Other problem is transfer speed: 1,7MB/s both directions.
Which is strange, its not always. Sometimes connection works for 2 minutes and than start to freak.

when I stream movies from Nas to TV by SMB they play ok, without any framedrops etc. so I think its something with my PC.

How its connected:
PC->1gb switch ->Nas
also tried PC-> 100mb router ->nas and it was same issue.

I don't know how to connect directly PC- to NAS to check is there also problem without any switch/router.

PS. I cannot acces to forum in home. I live in Poland, is it blocked for my country? I can only use it in work with VPN access.

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your DNS? Look at the sticker behind or under the device.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DNSs web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Try a reset on the DNS and set up from scratch. Won't bother data on drive.

Also take out current drive and test spare drive to see if same problem.

What OS are you using on PC?
Be sure that any security software on PC is disabled while doing xfers.

Hi thank for reply

1. Won't reset delete my files?
2. currently I have only one hdd
3. Win 10 desktop 1GB network card and laptop with 100MB network card

little update:
I used laptop from my girlfriend and results are:
FTP - same speeds: 1,7MB/s
SMB - 10-11MB/s
without disconnections.

so problem is with my PC :(

But why FTP is slower than SMB on my girlfriend laptop?

No, resets only deletes the configuration of the DNS like user accounts and UI configurations of the DNS only. You can make a back up of the DNS for safe keeping if you want too as well.

What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DNSs web page under status.
