Hi everyone,

After spending way too much time trying to solve this on my own last night I’m coming begging for help.

I was running low on space in my 320L so I snapped up a deal on a 4TB drive to replace a slow, non NAS designed 1TB that was running as my main volume.

My plan was to take out the larger 3TB drive, install and set up the 4TB drive in that spot, copy everything from the main drive over and then put the 4TB drive in volume 1.

I started the process last night, put the new drive in and formatted. Everything seemed fine initially until I tried to copy over files and access the other drive in any meaningful way. I lost the shares associated with Volume 2, and even when I tried to create a new network share, I would get simply nothing showing in the share screen. Coping files over from bash (I had fin plug installed, even tried removing that to no avail) I would get a “no space left on device” error.

What’s the best way of doing what I’m trying to do? Should I just start from scratch and take the main volume out and load the 4TB in? Then add my other 3TB drive and copy from the original drive via USB or network? I’m at a total loss here and almost was brought to tears last night when it just wouldn’t work.

Okay so one point of note, I’m running firmware 1.07, which is not funplug compatible? I guess?

Maybe I’m not running funplug. But I know I installed quite a few addons via vterdub or whatever that dude who is amazing on these forums.

So with that said, does that change anything? I just wish I knew my best option here.

I believe some add-ons were disabled since they were not made compatible with newer versions of FW.

Are you upgrading from 1.07 to 1.10?

I’m only trying to swap the drive so I’m fine not messing with the addons, I just don’t know what to do to fix it so I can access the hard drive 

But assuming addons like transmission and SSH work on the newer firmware, I’m fine upgrading that too, but if any of those addons are incompatible, I’d prefer to stay on the current one

Is there any help you can provide on what might be happening with the new hard drive? I just can’t grok what’s going on.

Is the new drive not being recognized by the DNS? Give details on what your seeing with the new drive. What is the MFr and model of the drive.
Is this drive on the supported drive list?

I added the drive in and it recognized it right away, started the format and then I could see it when logged in via Bash, but I would get an error about there not being space on the drive when I tried to copy over the files from volume 1 and when trying to create a share of the drive, it would just not create one. I was able to create folders with no issue whatsoever.

The drive is the 4TB WD red drive (WD40EFRX) and this is a confirmed compatible drive with the 320L, also.

And that’s the weird thing. It shows up in all the major areas (checking drive status and such) but just blanks when trying to access it to move files or create a share. I’ve even tried to just use the required share types (excluding FTP, NFS, etc and going with only what is required)

Also, is there a list of addons that don’t work with the more current firmware? I don’t mind upgrading as long as the few I use will still function. And I’m happy trying to use the new drive as volume 1 and trying to “start from scratch” if there’s a way I can ensure I don’t wipe my main volume (seriously, I almost passed out when I put it back in and there was a message about the travelling drive!)

How are you accessing the shared volume? Map drive with 192.168.#.###/volume_#? Does it call for log in info and is the log in info the same as you have set up for user accounts on the DNS? Should have a user account set up on the DNS and give access rights to the drive for the user account.

I don't think there is list of add-ons that I know of. You might check the DNS share center add-ons thread for information or post about it there...

ive Tried mapping the drive but volume_2 never shows up at all unfortunately. The only way I can access it in any way is via bash. When I browse the Bas directly, only volume 1 was available to mount

And in the shares section in the admin pages, I was able to go through the process to share volume 2, all the way through, but when I click “finish”, it would refresh the screen and nothing would show outside of volume 1 being shared.

I tried resetting network shares and adding them again. When I put my original drive back into volume 2, it loaded back up and I could access the shares the same.

And yes the login is he same, I tried with every user account I had set up (my personal one I created as well as admin/root) to no avail.

If there isn't anything on the drive, you might remove the drive, put it in a PC and format it in a PC. Then re-install and walk the set up wizard again. If your using Standard Formatting on the DNS, it should format it mount it as Vol2 and then verify that you have given the volume user rights. If thats verified, do a reboot of the DNS from the UI and reboot it. After it reboots, try to map drive \\ipaddressofDNS\volume_2 in Windows.

What version of Windows are you using?

Just wanted to post a much delayed update - Had some family emergencies come up over christmas and haven't been able to work on this until now.

I decided to get an external drive mount as my computers are not conducive to getting in and out of without a lot of fighting, I reset to factory defaults, formatted the new drive in windows, put that in the main slot and put the old 3TB drive in slot 2.

Booted it up, replaced the IP address with the updated one and I'm now flying beautifully! 7TB of storage for random media, I'm very happy and I also realized I posted in the wrong forums, should have been in the 320L but I'm also guessing there's not a ton of difference between the two.

either way, thank you for your help - It was exactly what I needed to get me through this frustrating experience, and I can't thank you enough!
