Link Speed greyed out
« on: August 16, 2009, 10:29:21 AM »

Hi Guru's.
Can someone help. I recently purchased a Belkin N+ router which has a gigabit switch built in. I have connected it up to my 323 but even after restarting both, the link speed in the web gui shows that 1000 is greyed out. Very strange.

I have used cat5e cables so I am a bit confused.........

If it is greyed out then the detected link speed is probalby 10/100. Have you tried directly hooking it up to your PC (if your pc supports gigabit) and seeing if it is still greyed out? If not then its probably a router issue.

Did you try a diferent cable? Did you go to the router GUI and make sure is set to allow gigabit connections?

Kind regards

Log on to router and you should see it somewhere under LAN settings, usually you get option of Auto, 1gb or 10/100, either set it to Auto or 1gb.. Check with another cable, i had 3 brand new cables bad out of box last couple months, all shipped with routers.

Also please keep in mind that if you lock down one side of a connection you must either lock that side down to half duplex or lock down both sides to either half or full duplex.  Leaving one side full duplex and letting the other negotiate will create a duplex mismatch.

Also gigabit connections may not allow you to lock down the speed to 1000mbps at all because the gigabit standard was specifically written to require autonegotiation.

hummm, the Belkin site seems to be down right now.. I did find the manual for it, and it says the Router will autodetect the speed of cards connected to it.. I could not see the option of manually selecting it.
Any other devices connected to the router? If so unplug them.. Like it was mentioned before, try straight to PC and see what happens.
