Hi All. I am hoping that someone can help me out. I have had the AC5300 for about 18months now, and was very happy with it when i first bought it - great range, great speeds.
However over past 6 months or so, I have noticed a decline in internet speeds. I have tolerated it thinking it was probably my ISP, or simply many devices streaming over internet.
So ... I have been home on my own for past 2 days and have found that the internet is equally as poor when no one is using it. So I decided to bite the bullet and investigate.
I have isolated the router and changed SSID so there is only one device on the wifi and internet connection at the time of my testing. I have turned off 'smartlink' on the router so i could manage 2.4/5GHz channels separately. I turned off other wifi devices in my immediate vicinity that may be getting in the way (Google Home, Chromecast, Speaker System, etc)
Here is what I have found in regards to Speedtest.net results
Attached to ethernet of ac5300 - 118Mbps / 10Mbps - very happy with this result
at 0.5 metres from router
2.4 GHZ - 25Mbps / 4Mbps
5 GHZ - 40Mbps / 6Mbps
at 3 metres from router
2.4 GHZ - 10Mbps / 2Mbps
5 GHZ - 18Mbps / 3Mbps
and the results only go backwards from there.
When I first purchased the router I was getting 100Mbps / 8Mbps from pretty mush anywhere in my house and yard. Now, 18mths later, I am getting no where near this, and with 4 adults and 2 teenagers in the house, the router is proving to be a major bottleneck when everyone is home.
I have changed Wifi Channels, Channel Bandwidth, 802.11 Modes, Power across all 3 channels within the Wireless config - each to no benefit. I have reseated all the 8 antennas on the device. I have applied firmware updates with factory resets before and after firmware upgrades / downgrades. No matter what I do, I am getting no result.
Is there something that I may be missing??? Is it likely I have faulty device? Bad Firmware?
Many thanks in advance
Ryan C
