What revision and firmware version is your DIR-655? Most do not have an Extender/Bridge mode.

You can set a router up as a access point but it requires you to use an Ethernet cable from your current router to the DIR-655.

If you need to extend your wireless network wirelessly, you need to purchase an actual wireless extender, bridge, or access point that supports extender/bridge mode. Most routers do not support this.

Only other method you can try is this:
Turning a router into an AP.
