Hello all, i am from Quebec, Canada

My DNS-320 seems dead. Power supply pushes power but no led and no activity showing up. It was configured RAID-1 with two 2TB Seagate HDD. A few weeks ago it was working slow and i decided to upgrade the firmware and refresh the configuration. Everything went fine and NAS was working as expected.

Few weeks later, boom..... no life, no led, no noise.... Nothing.

So like everybody else on the planet, i need the data very badly.

I tried to access the hard drive with Ubuntu linux usb thumb drive. The only data accessible was a 524mb partition on the 2TB hard disk.... I was able to see the 2TB linux partition but was unmountable & unaccessible. Any hint on how i can access it to grab my stuff ?

Other question, how can i proceed if i found a used DNS-320 in good working order to manage my 2x 2Tb HDD already mounted in the faulty one ?

I might have other questions, but for now this is it.

For few year ago I had a similar problem with power supply on my DNS-323 and after that I always have a small external storage 2.5" 500GB and backup everything from my data to have access if something happened with DNS-323. Try to fix the motherboard, maybe is a small problem, how knows.

Can there be a problem in CR2032 battery maybe?
Unfortunately I do not know the symptoms when the CMOS battery dies.

I doubt that the CMOS battery is related. It might be dead, but that does not effect the operations under normal power supply.

Check the power of CMOS battery with multimeter.
My DNS-323 is 10 years old, sometime must be the end.

DNS-320 CMOS battery is a LR44 1.5V.

I just tested it and it works. Multimeter show 1.3V, so it is not as new... but still hold charge.

The best way is to give someone who knows with circuit boards and to check all, I don't have another advice. Good luck!

Sorry to be rather late trying to answer your questions.

First thing we need to know is how your drives were formatted (RAID 0, RAID1, JBOD or STANDARD).  RAID 1 is the easiest to recover data from, all the others require special software to try and reconstruct the Software RAID layout.

Read the sticky 'Data Recovery (Windows PCs)' and if your disks were formatted as RAID 0, JBOD or even STANDARD then download the R-Studio Recovery Manual and start reading (it will give you a very good idea of what is involved with data recovery)

That is correct if one disk fails which is why we always recommended that our clients used RAID 1 and made a separate backup. 

Since this case appears to be a unit failure both disks should be ok, therefore with a little care and preparation plus adequate software, it should be possible to recover most if not all the data.
