Muliple 942L Cameras Dead / Red Lighted
« on: December 23, 2017, 12:31:32 PM »

What the heck is up with these cameras?  Do they have a set shelf life?  I bought 3 942L cameras on the same day and a 932L camera a few weeks before.  They are all several years old and I bought them all brand new.  My 932L camera died a couple of weeks ago and my 3 942Ls all died today within the same 1 hour time frame.  I am, so angry right now and I wasted the entire day trying to fix and diagnose this.

When I plug them all in I just get a red light.  I always updated the firmware when it was released and never had any trouble after doing that and they have all been working good for a long time.  I have done multiple factory resets and still only get the red light.  I can only get a green light when I tried the recovery process (as noted in several other threads) which does not work at all.  The recovery process does not work with the 942 cameras, you can't log into the cameras then at all.  I can get the camera to work normally only if I have them on a wired Ethernet connection.  That pretty much limits them to being useless bricks if you ask me.  I bought them to be Wi-Fi cams and need them as such.

Is there anyone out there that have successfully fixed these cameras when they red-lighted?  Or is my entire surveillance system now defunct and left without any working units?  I can not really afford to replace my entire system.  Thanks a lot d-link.

Try swapping a good power adapter to see if the power adapter could be an issue. Some power adapters don't last long. Check the volt and amps at the tip.

Same problem, I don't recall specific dates but 3 of my 942s (purchased from Amazon together) died within a few months of each other. They still work wired, but not wireless. D-Link offers no support, will not even answer questions. They referred me to a 3rd party who seemed only interested in selling me a monthly service.

Units will eventually fail due to heat and probably general use. The 942s are no longer developed on and are end of life for support. When units fail, users need to retire them and find something new.

If they work normal using an Ethernet cable, the camera isnt dead. It is having issues connecting to your wireless network.

When using Ethernet, can you view them using the mydlink app (local and remote)?

What are the cameras connecting to (via WiFi)? brand and model of router/AP
