Hey all,

I've Linksys X6200 AC750 Wi-Fi VDSL Modem Router and my recently bought D-Link AC1200 Wi-Fi Range Extender/Access Point.

Issue #1

I'm would like to apply these steps as found in this reply (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=59973.msg242178#msg242178)

"Factory reset, reload FW, factor reset after that and set up from scratch using the wizard...
Use IE or FF to upload FW."

So, basically it's in this order

1. Factory reset
2. Upload latest Firmware
2. Factory reset again
4. Setup from scratch

Use Internet Explorer or Firefox to upload the firmware

Is it correct like that ?

I realize that whenever I'm in area where the router signal is weak BEFORE having my dap in "repeater mode", which is on right now, the signal now is not stable, it goes from weak to strong and from strong to weak, not a stable signal.

How can I solve this ?!

How can I solve this ?!

• What Hardware version is your DAP? Look at the sticker under the DAP.
• Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DAPs web page under status.
• What region are you located?

What is the distance between the DAP and the main host WiFi? Feet? 20-30 feet should be a starting point to place the DAP from the main host wifi.
What wireless modes are you using on the main host WiFi? Mixed, Single modes.

#1 - Correct. The reset before the firmware upgrade is not necessary.

#2 - The room may have a lot of interference or obstructions affecting any Wi-Fi signal.

Any appliances, mirrors, fish tanks, wall materials (metal, fiberglass insulation, etc), and other RF can affect Wi-Fi. What is the environment in that room like?

Range extenders do NOT boost the wireless signal, it basically bridges the router using its own Wi-Fi signal.

1. I've done the factory reset as follows,

1. "Restore To Factory Default Settings" from the "Management" tab then "System Admin" then "System", the software version was 2.06
2. Upload the latest firmware which is 2.06 again which was these in the first place through Firefox
3. "1." again
4.. Setup from scratch

Is that the correct order ?

2. I'm confused, since now I've a router and a "repeater', whom shall act as a access point and to connect my smartphones and tablets to, the router or the repeater ?!

My DAP-1665 in is the "repeater" mode

The distance is 13 feet.

Wireless modes on the Linksys router is Mixed.

When I made that test where I faced the problem, it was in the bathroom, and between the bathroom and the wifi and/or DAP, 2 doors, the bathroom door and a door of a small corridor between the living area where the router and the dap is located and the bathroom.

IF your using the DAP in repeater mode, then the distance should be farther away from the main host wifi, try 30 feet to start.

- Why the distance should be 30 feet onwards ?!

- I can place the DAP at a distance of 25 feet where it will be in the Kitchen but but beside it there will be a wireless land phone and a 24/7 working FM radio, I can move both from beside the DNP but still, the radio FM at least will be inside the kitchen, what this affect the signal ?

Wifi signal over lap. You don't want too much over lap between the main host router and DAP. The main host router can cover up to 30feet depending upon building materials.

Yes you an place in kitchen. Be aware that some operation with microwaves can effect WiFi.
