SharePort Network USB Utility question

Is it possible to connect to a hard drive via the DIR-655 usb port without using the SharePort Network USB utility? I would like all computers to be able to connect to the drive at all times simulaneously when the network is running, is this possible in anyway?

No, only with utility.
It is not a NAS or network hd but just a virtual USB Port over TCP/IP.

NAs functionality will kill the routers performance on its core purpose: routing. Just in case the sequel to your question would be "why don't they include a NAS feature".

You could get an external enclosure that has an RJ45 either net connection and bypass the USB on the router as to this point not very functional.
