323 Power Supply

Just got a used 323, but it came without a power supply.

I have a Lacie 4 pin mini DIN power supply which fits & outputs at 5v (4.2a) / 12v (3a). When i plug it into the 323 it powers it up and runs the fan but when i insert harddrive(s) the power dies.

Anyone know why this would be the case? I though that the Lacie should be ok @ 12v (3a)... and if its not, is there anywhere i can get a properly rated power supply for the 323? Im in Ireland.

Although the Lacie PS ratings are suitable information found online (http://www.applefritter.com/node/18202) indicates the +5 and +12 volt pins found on the Lacie adaptor are the reverse of those found on the DNS323 adaptor.

Have you considered getting one from D-Link?

FWIW, you should ALWAYS check the exact pinout of the power supply, there are many of those +5/+12 power bricks with the same connector, and as stated, many have different pin assignments for the voltages.

I have several devices where I've hacked the cable and rewired it to match what I needed as long as the voltages and power output were sufficient.

Thanks for the replies.

Makes sense then about the Lacie not working.

Ive trawled around the D-Link site but cant find a way to buy the Power Supply anywhere.....maybe its just me. Im happy to get one from them for sure. Will send them a email to find out how i can get one.

Must admit that i managed to plug in my powersuply upside down or something. Seems to have fried the power supply to the disks... But the rest seems fine.

I have modified my unit slightly and is supplying 12v to the disks directly and with some SATA extension cables I have inserted the disk into the unit the wrong way and connected them with these.

It is up and running... But I do want to secure a new unit when some extra cash becomes avaiable...
