Mac apps cannot overwrite files on shares w/ 1.8b5 firmware
« on: September 14, 2009, 11:58:34 AM »

I updated my firmware to 1.8b5 yesterday (one of my Macs is running Snow Leopard) and I'm having difficulty saving from certain applications.

I can save a new pages/numbers/keynote file to a share, make changes and save over-and-over. However, if I close the app and re-open the document, I cannot save the file (I can use "Save As" to the same directory but not to the same file).

This behaviour occurs on Leopard (10.5.8) and Snow Leopard (10.6.1).

I suspected this had something to do with file locking (it doesn't occur with simpler apps like TextEdit) and disabled oplocks but that didn't resolve the issue.

I checked all file permissions and everything's fine. I can save to shares on my linux box without issue.

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking that this is a locking bug w/ 1.8b5 but perhaps someone has a better idea?

I am using 1.8b5 and snow leopard 10.6.1 on my mac without any issues. I simply connect as a guest and everything works great. Previously i was using the original 1.8 beta with 10.6.0 and I did not have any issues with that either.

Connecting as guest is not an option for me (I need some security on these shares) but I'll try that to see if it makes a difference.

Are you using Pages or Numbers?
