Apple iTouch OS 3.1 wifi problems

after updating to Apple's iTouch 3.1 OS, I have started noticing the wifi signal doesn't work outside of the room it's in. Apple should be aware of the problematic wifi with their device; however, I noticed the DIR-625 firmware hasn't been updated since 2006.
