Advanced DHCP settings
« on: November 09, 2009, 12:49:48 PM »

Hey all

I just bought and configured a DIR-825, first of all very nice router!

Secondly it is part of a larger network setup. It is working as my primary wifi-router but my secondary DSL-router and gateway (have a Zyxel something). Due to the nice advanced settings in the Dlink router i would like to use the DHCP server in the DIR-825.

So my question is, how can i configure the DHCP server in the DIR-825 so that the default gateway and dns servers are not the once of the DIR-825 router but values that i configured. In my Zyxel i can give these settings, but can't fine where to do it in the DIR-825.

Any help appreciated?

Thanks in advance

Joe

access the IP address of your router to get to the router setup page.

From the main setup page, click on the Setup tab at the top, and the Network button on the left side.  From there, you can turn on DHCP and set that up.

Next, click on the Inernet button on the left side, then click on Manual Internet Setup.  From there, you can choose to give your router a fixed IP or let it get one from your other router, and you can also assign fixed DNS server IP addresses.

Hope this helps

Hey Rick

Thanks this does indeed fix the problem but its not the right solution. If i change internet ip or DNS the router can no longer acces the internet.

Maybe i was not clear the first time, but both routers are connected to a DSL line. I want to use the dsl line of my Zyxel router as primary internet connection, but i want to use Dlink as primary router. This way i can manually configure a server to use the secondary DSL line and all DHCP clients will use primary line. I cannot swap the routers as they are preconfigured from ISP and zyxel has build in atm modem.

sorry, I am confused as to what you are trying to do.  Are you saying that you have two DSL lines and two DSL modems?

 ???

Yes..
Router 1: Zyxel (modem and router) and fast dsl line.
Router 2: DIR-825 (behind dsl modem) slow dsl line.

I cannot swap the rotuers because of the build modem in zyxel.
I would like to use DIR-825 as primary router and DHCP server but the gateway that it gives clients should be ip of Zyxel router.. It is possible in the Zyxel router to give DHCP server these settings, but starting to thing it is not in Dir-825.

so you are saying that you want the IP address assigned by the 825 to be the same IP range as the DSL router?  Why would you need to do that?
