:'( hi, i've had my dns-323 for about 8 months now; worked great. had 1 seagate 1tb drive in the left slot( power button facing me), then 6 weeks ago, i added a second seagate 1tb drive into the right slot. worked great until today. While downloading a torrent file from my desktop, the torrent stalled, could no longer access volume 1. when i tried to access volume 1 from "my computer" in xp, all the files were missing ( 700 GB data gone). the easy search utility did not even see volume 1 anymore. tried to do a manual refresh; refresh stayed at 0% for 20 minutes then i stopped it and shutdown the unit; did not see any disk activity. after restarting it, all the drives were accessible again,i was able to see all of my missing files, only the volume numbers switched on me. i thought to myself, i could live with that as long as i have access to my files; was i mistaken. everytime i try to access a file from my "old volume 1" all the folders disappear and i have to shutdown and restart the unit to see them again; a soft restart does not work. the cycle starts all over again. i have blue lights across the board, and i'm running firmware 1.06. surprisingly, my new drive is still fully accessible.

Did you reset the unit to factory defaults and try to access your data again?

I just went through some learning today.

The volumes are labeled starting right (facing power button) then left. If you only install one drive in the left, it will be volume one. Then a a drive in the right, it will be volume two. If you look at the shares they will show{vol1shared as 2} and {vol2 shared as 1}. All that is needed to repair that is to remove, switch, and replace the drives then remap the shares.

I suggest you create a folder that marks the drives and perform the above. Then you will know EXACTLY which drive you are looking at.

It appears to me that your drive one {original} has died and what should have really been drive one has taken it's place. Remember that you started with {only} one drive in the Vol2 {left} side.

I will check in to find out what {if any} reply you make.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did notice that my old volume 1 drive was hotter to the touch than my newer drive.
