NOOB QUESTION: Do I also need to enable DDNS on my router?
« on: December 30, 2009, 11:05:20 AM »

Hi, all

I just bought my DNS 323.  I am having problem setting up DDNS on the NAS.  I did search but couldn't find anything.  I signed up a free domain name on dyndns.com with my WAN IP.  I enabled the DDNS on DNS 323.  But when people use the domain name outside of my home network, they cannot connect to my network.

I have a 1.07 firmware.  Do I need to enable the DDNS on the router as well in order to let it work?

Thanks ???

Nope.  I suspect you don't have the proper ports forwarded to allow connections.  As long as your DDNS account client is running anywhere on your system, your IP address will be mapped to the DynDNS URL for your site.

thanks gunrunnerjohn!   I would like to have people see all the files on the NAS when they entered the URL.  Which ports shall I forward?

That depends on wich port your ftp service is listening (default is 21), It's quite easy to set it up, if you have any further questions, just ask

For open FTP, simply forward port 21 to the NAS and configure the accounts in the DNS-323 and it should be done.
