Updating files
« on: May 26, 2009, 06:54:48 AM »

This weekend I ripped the remainder of my DVD collection to my DNS-343 and resorted some of the ones I had already done. I also added or renamed several folders. When I fire up the PS3, it still shows all of the old structure and I get DNLA 2114 or 2104 errors when I click on anything that I have moved or renamed.

When I try to do a manual update on the UPNP on the NAS it gets to 27% and stops, never finishes.

I have tried rebooting the NAS, and shutting off and turning back on UPNP, iTunes, etc. I also tried turning on and off the Media sharing client on the PS3. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas gang?

It may be trying to index something corrupted and failing. In release firmware the media server causes a halt when hitting a corrupt file. Perhaps check which files play to figure out which video it is not indexing.

The sheer number of files on there would be prohibitive, it would take months to check them all. I will do a scan disk tonight just to be sure it is not a bad sector or some other drive issues. Can d-link provide or suggest any file integrity utilities to check the files themselves?

Also, as a request, it would be great if the index service ran on device vs. running from the client. There is no need to tie up a customers PC for what can amount to hours when the utility could easily run on the NAS it's self.

What do you mean tie up the client instead of the NAS? The index service is running on the nas. Do you mean the status window?

I do not have an integrity checker to offer. Also next firmware should fix this issue by skipping unreadable files.

I've got the same problem: the PS3 shows an old file structure after I've changed filenames and added new ones.  Unlike you, I have no visible errors being reported (i got to 100% of manual update with no NAS hang, no DNLA errors etc).  Tried all the things you've listed too.  I cannot find a way to refresh the list of files/folders seen by the PS3.  Any ideas?
