I had a DWA adapter for my laptop. It didn't work as well as the built-in wireless-G adapter because the antennae goes around the LCD screen. On the DWA adapter, there is no large antennae so the signal was horrid unless you were in the same room as the router (even though the connection said 300Mbps, which is almost meaningless). Check your router for actual speeds.
I quit using the DWA adapter.
The DWA-552 is a PCI card with external antennas. I have the 556 which is the same card except PCIe.
My computer is in the room above my router, on the other side. My signal as reported by my computer is usually over 92%.
I can transfer a single 9-10gb file at atleast 9MB/sec over this.
What is the D-link utility reporting for signal strength on the computer with the wireless. I purchased the breakout antenna for my 556 because my computer is on the floor next to a wall and I wanted the antenna to be raised up, thats how I get such a great signal.
