inotify_upnp at 99% CPU
« on: March 03, 2009, 07:50:18 PM »

While the DNS-323 drives seem to spin down, and the main blue indicator light is off, at the same time I can see that inotify_upnp is sitting at 99% CPU utilization (on firmware 1.06) - is this normal?

How are you determining the inotify_upnp is sitting at 99% CPU utilization?

Well, that happens to me too. I can see it easily enough with top:

Code: [Select]
Mem: 60136K used, 1768K free, 0K shrd, 12208K buff, 32380K cached
CPU: 100% usr   0% sys   0% nice   0% idle   0% io   0% irq   0% softirq
Load average: 1.02 1.03 1.00
PID  PPID USER     STAT   VSZ %MEM %CPU COMMAND
 1843  1842 root     R     1576   3% 100% inotify_upnp
 5140  4743 root     R     1324   2%   0% top
 1549  1548 root     S     6700  11%   0% ./bt --daemon-loop
 1553  1551 root     S     6700  11%   0% ./bt --daemon-loop
 1552  1551 root     S     6700  11%   0% ./bt --daemon-loop
 1551  1549 root     S     6700  11%   0% ./bt --daemon-loop
 1554  1551 root     S     6700  11%   0% ./bt --daemon-loop
 1558     1 root     S     5160   8%   0% /web/webs
 1744  1601 root     S     5144   8%   0% /usr/sbin/samba/smbd -D
 1601     1 root     S     4812   8%   0% /usr/sbin/samba/smbd -D
 1605  1601 root     S     4812   8%   0% /usr/sbin/samba/smbd -D
 1606     1 root     S     2968   5%   0% /usr/sbin/samba/nmbd -D

any idea why inotify_upnp stays at 99% CPU ?

Regards,
Sylaan

I also have this problem.  I'm running firmware 1.07.  Has there been any progress on this?

Same problem here with newly purchased DNS-323 with firmware 1.07. 99% CPU on inotify_upnp!

Can anybody from DLink help on this issue please?

Has anyone tried the beta code to see if the results are the same?

Yes.

I have noted this in previous versions as well, but I have never seen it on 1.08b05. This issue appears to be resolved in the beta.
