Very odd to be sure, sure sounds like something in the network doesn't like the jumbo frames.

How do transfers between machines fare with the jumbo frames?  Is there any issue there?

Between PCs is no problem. But for the most part my transfers between PCs is usually between the laptops to the big desktop. Then from the desktop in a batch job via FTP to the 321 when I'm sleeping. I'd give you exact times but my little desktop just threw up it's RAID drives, one of them at least, so until repairs are effected I won't be able to do that, sorry.  :'(
