Intel 5300 myWiFi Cannot Authenticate on Vista Premium x64
« on: November 14, 2009, 02:13:24 PM »

Hi,

I tried finding anything posted on this topic but had no luck, hopefully someone can help me.

I am trying to connect Dell Studio XPS 1640 with Intel 5300 AGN myWiFi card, running Windows Vista Premium 64-bit.  Computer sees my networks but whenever I try to connect to either 2.4GHz or 5GHz network it keeps bouncing me back claiming that the network key is invalid. I verified the keys several times and have multiple wireless connections from different computers with the same set of keys.

I am running 2.02NA on DIR-825, have the latest Intel drivers for 5300 (v13.0.0.0). I don't want to drop security from WPA-Peronsal to WEP since that will prevent me from using N band.

Has anybody ran into similar problems?

Thank you for your help,
d.

SSID is broadcasted ? (visible)

Does your SSID contain special characters ?
Does your WPA key contain special characters ?

Try a new SSID in your router (never used before) with an easy key as 12345678.
Set encryption to WPA2 PSK only with AES - do not use Auto settings.

Hi Lizzi,

Thank you for your reply. I'll try changing SSIDs as well as changing the keys. Currently there are no special characters either in the SSID name or in the key, but at this point I am running out of options.

Funny thing is that Intel 1510 card has no problems seeing either 2.4GHz or 5Ghz networks and connects to them just fine, but it is running Windows XP. Last night I upgraded the XPS to Windows 7 and used just plain Intel drivers without any of the Dell add-ons on the computer and still I got the same issues.

All the best,
d.

OK, I think the mystery is solved at least for Win7 Pro installation but I am pretty certain that it will work for Vista as well.

Computer:
Grabbed the latest Intel ProSet/Wireless Connection Utility (Win7Pro x64) from
http://downloadcenter.Intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18240&lang=eng.

DIR-825:
Setup both 2.4(n/g) and 5(n) channels with WPA-Personal, WPA2 Only mode and AES cypher type. Left the pre-shared keys same as before.

Now I have solid connection at 216Mbps to 270Mbps. Solid as in not disconnecting rather than keeping high speed  ;).

Apparently something does not like it if you have WPA mode set to Auto and cypher to TKIP and AES.

Thank you Lizzi for your suggestions.
