Search Utility Log in

I reset my 321 and added to drives set to individual. When trying to connect using the Search Utility it would ask me for a user and pass. When I first setup the 321 with just one drive it didn't require me to log in. I restarted 321 and then tried again it requested and user/pass. I then went in to network place in Win XP click add network place then linked it there. Then I opened the utility again and click on the drive and connect and it did successfully. All other attempts to connect it would connect (showing drive in My Computer) then disconnect.

Why did it ask me to log in to map drive?

Did adding network place solve the problem with mapping drives?
