Flashing Lights
« on: March 23, 2010, 07:30:47 PM »

So I just bought my 655 yesterday and had no problems setting things up. I have 2 wired devices (a pc and a vonage voip modem) connected, no wireless devices and the router is plugged into a Motorola cable modem. I'm using the latest firmware.

Their are two leds that are constantly flashing on the front: the status light (which is a good thing) and the internet light (which confuses me). Even if I unplug all of the devices (wired and wireless), the internet light flashes constantly. When the router is connected to my modem, the modem's activity light constantly flashes too. If I unplug the router, the modem shows no activity which indicates to me the DLink Router is causing the activity.

No ports are forwarded, remote management is not turned on, traffic shaping & Qos is off (having them on made my connection extremely slow), enable WAN ping response is off... It's a basic setup.

So why is there all of this activity? It doesn't seem to cause any problems but it makes me worried my router is getting attacked, it's sending out data or some other bad scenario (it's also visibly annoying). If the router was just talking to the modem, I wouldn't expect modem activity.

Anyone have a good explanation or recommendation?
