How to buy a B1 rev router and setup questions....
« on: December 03, 2009, 08:41:40 AM »

I have been following these forums for some time and have seen the issues with A1 and firmware problems.

From what I can tell, the B1 rev of this router seems to work.

I have the following questions:

1) How do I find a reliable source that has B1 rev of the router?
2) If not the 825, given the success of the 855's latest update, is there any cons to getting the 855 except for the price?

3) Finally, I will the following in my living room in the next month or so:  HTPC I built on my own with Media Center and Win7, XBox 360 and a Samsung TV/Blue-ray player that has Internet capabilities to download/view content.   My thought would be to get a D-Link Xtreme N Duo Wireless Bridge/Access Point DAP-1522 and plug in wires to that which will then communicate to the 825 or 855 -- would that be a good idea or there a better option?

The easiest way to get a B1 is to find one on the shelves.  When I got mine a couple of months back, I just happened to notice that some were HW:A1 and some were HW:B1.  The HW revision is on the bar-code label on the side of the box.  I went with B1.

D-Link can be a bit tricky to find on shelves; Linksys and Netgear seem to be more commonly available.  In the US, Office Depot and Microcenter carry D-Link, though.
