Flac transcoding with Firefly app on b5
« on: November 21, 2009, 02:54:16 PM »

I installed the Firefly app on the latest beta.
In Itunes, the flac files appear, but the only info about them is the file name. Also, they are listed as lasting 10 minutes each.
Obviously, there is something wrong with flac files.
If i go in firefly config web interface (or config file in: /Volume_1/Nas_Prog/iTunes/etc/), I see that flac files (which I added by hand in the extensions parameter) should be transcoded to wav, because flac extension is enabled in the ssc_codectypes parameter (I didn't enabled it myself, it was already) and there is also a transcoding script listed for that.
At that page http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=5485.0 it lists flac support, is it really added ?

I suggest this with absolutely no certainty:

The DNS-323 doesn't have a powerful CPU. Even if you could transcode, I'm not convinced you'd have a consistent skip-free/problem-free listening experience.

Mind you, the CPU perfect for what the 323 is designed to do. :)

FWIW, D-Link is supposed to be updating the Beta Apps section in the next few days to go alongside the new beta 8 firmware release.  Perhaps you will see a change in functionality then.  Either way I'm not a fan of transcoding on the 323.
