[Solved] Easy Search - no configuration?
« on: December 15, 2009, 12:37:06 PM »

I have a DNS-323 that is now attached to a new 2-Wire router, from Bell. The router shows no response to plugging the network cable into it, but there are signs it is recognising it, somewhat. The router's admin page does not show the box is connected. It shows two computers not turned on, at this time, but not this box. Go figure...

When I run Easy Search 4.4, the old configuration of two hard drives is there, but when I select the 323 listed, the configuration button greys out. I am not sure if this is a legacy config from the old router or whether ES is actually reporting what it sees right now.

Coincidently, I ran a printer checker program and it saw the 323's printer server.

The DNS-323 has the latest firmware.

So, how do I go about getting the router to do its thing with the 323?

(Once I get this working with Windows, then I have to try figuring it all out again with Linux, so I hope there are some resources here, to teach me how to do this.)

So

What is the IP address of the DNS-323 and the Address range of your network? Have you tried access the address of the DNS-323 in your browser?

Router Address:   192.168.2.1
DHCP Range:   192.168.2.10 - 192.168.2.254

IP Address: 192.168.2.15

The static IP address for the DNS-323 was 192.168.0.190, with the old router, so the box is out of range. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

The problem now is that the new router isn't accepting me changing the DHCP range, so I have to contact Bell, to find out how that works.

There is a reset button on the DNS-323 on the back. Get a paper clip and with the power on press in the button and hold for 5 seconds and release. This will reset the settings to factory defaults and will set the DNS-323 back to DHCP to get an address from your router. This will not affect the data on your drives.

Thanks, ECF!

Resetting the box and getting DHCP again worked.
