Wireless phones hang DIR-615
« on: December 29, 2009, 06:28:48 PM »

When I use my some of my wireless phones, the router will freeze/hang and I get limited or no connectivity status on my wireless PCs. The only solution, I have at the moment is to disconnect power from the router and plug it back in.

I have loaded the latest firmware update installed update: V3.11NA for Hardware Version: C1 but it did not help.

Anyone know if there is a solution or do I have to live with powering the router off and on everytime I use the phone?

Wireless phones as in cordless phones? Wireless N is dual band 2.4ghz and 5ghz. So the interference from cordless phones would depend on the frequency of the phone and the frequency your wireless clients are connecting at. Either way if you are referring to cordless phones you appear to have a rather noisy one as related to the carrier frequency of the channel your router is one:)
The default setting for the channel on the router is AUTO, the channel is set on router bootup so if you are not on the phone at the time the router will pick the cleanest channel, which may be the channel your phone system uses. Then when your phone is in use, interference happens.
One solution is to choose the best channel manually by trial and error (keep in mind that once you appear to have the best channel, someone will use the microwave and you will start testing over again :) to choose the best channel not affected by the cordless phone or microwave.
Another solution is to switch to a DECT coordless phone which if memory serves uses a carrier frequency below the 2.4 ghz band

I had the same problem with my DIR-615. My cordless phones were in the 2.4ghz band and every time the phone rang my wireless dropped out. The only way to get it back on was to power cycle the router. I ended up buying a set of Dict 6.0 cordless phones to replace the 2.4ghz ones. That fixed it for me.

I tried the channel setting trick and initial testing appears to work for at least 2 of my cordless phones. Hopefully, the microwave oven won't trip it up :-). I will also look into DECT phones.

Thanks.
