HP 6988 Network Printer

I have installed an HP printer via an ethernet cable. When I turn the printer on and let it sit a few minutes, the router will not see it.  I have to unplug the ethernet cable from the router, then plug it back in again then the router will see it and all is well.  This does this every time that I go to use the printer.
