I cant get the 321 E-Mail Alerts to work with gmail?
« on: January 03, 2010, 06:06:57 PM »

Hi All,

Cant get a successful email test for my new 321.  Here is what im doing for gmail...

Login Method: Account
UserName:  myGmailUserName@gmail.com
Password:  myGmailPassword
SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
Sender email: myGmailUserName@gmail.com
Receiver email: myGmailUserName@gmail.com

Ive played around with combinations of the username to drop the @gmail.com suffix but still not getting any luck.  All other features of the 321 seem to be working well.   NIGEL

Did you check SMTP Authentication?  The email works fine for me using my Verizon account.

Are your Sender and Receiver the same email address?

Drop the @gmail.com for the Username: and enable POP in your Gmail settings. (Through Gmail's web interface.)

I just unboxed and set mine up today with no problems. ;D

Best of luck!

I too am unable to get a successful email notification test with gmail or hotmail account.  Here is what I'm doing for gmail...

Login Method: Account
UserName:  myGmailUserName@gmail.com NOTE: based on the latest email I also tried myGmailUserName without the extension @gmail.com
Password:  myGmailPassword
SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
Sender email: myGmailUserName@gmail.com
Receiver email: a different GmailUserName@gmail.com

Ive played around with combinations of the username to drop the @gmail.com suffix but still getting failure.  I've changed both accounts to enable POP3. All other features of the 321 seem to be working well.   Michael

I had the same trouble. The way I got around it was to put the gateway address in the DNS1 field on the Lan/Setup.  This is the address of my router.  Once I did that then it started working with my gmail account.  My settings are below.  You will note that I sned it to a different account than my gmail account.  I did not try having the sender and receiver the same address.

DNS1: Gateway/router address

Login Method: Account
User Name: gmail account user name
Password: gmail account user password
SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
Sender Email Address: username@gmail.com
Receiver Email Address: MyAccount@cox.net

Nope changing dns1 to the gateway address did not work! Anyone want to try on one of your DNS 321 that's got a working email notification? Here's what I'm using

Login Method: Account
UserName:  betatech22@gmail.com NOTE: based on the latest email I also tried betatech22 without the extension @gmail.com
Password:  password22
SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
Sender email: betatech22@gmail.com
Receiver email: techalpha11@gmail.com (password:password11)

Ive played around with combinations of the username to drop the @gmail.com suffix but still getting failure. The lack of any info other than failure is quite annoying  I've changed both accounts to enable POP3. All other features of the 321 seem to be working well.   Michael

Michael you did not say if you are using firmware version 1.03.  I am using that version and I just successfully sent the status report to the same address as the sender.  If you are running 1.03 everything else looks good.  The only thing that I could think of is a possibility that your router is stopping it since gmail uses a different port than Outlook.

I am in the same boat, can't get email notification features to work.  I am with ATT and they use SSL and TLS authentication for inbound and outbound email.  This means they do not use the old "open" " standard" email ports like port 25 for smtp mail sending.

I have been unable to to get gmail to work for the same reason.  Thunderbird can access and send mail with my gmail account, but it is using secured ports with authentication.

Dlink needs to build this into the next firmware release as no one leaves their email server running on port 25 anymore for spam security reasons.

Try port forwarding as a work around.  I used port 587 as the incoming port and port 25 as the "to" port. I set mine up after having problems with Gmail and it has been working ever since.

You are suggesting I forward port 25 smtp communication from my 321 to port 465 (gmail's smtp SSL connection)?
