No luck with USB hard drive
« on: January 04, 2010, 10:44:22 PM »

Just bought a Seagate 1TB external drive & connected it to the DIR-825 but my first attempt to transfer a 4.3GB folder of video files is a failure. It's from a vista 64 machine, and of course I first had to install the SharePort Utility to make the drive visible.

The first 0.7 GB gets transferred very fast, but then it slows to a crawl with the estimated time remaining now at 41 minutes with 2GB remaining. I'm using the 5GHz channel, since it gives better results for watching HD video using HDHomeRun TV tuner hooked up to one of the LAN ports.

Since I started writing this complaint, not a single file has gotten one byte bigger! The connection is dead, yet I can surf the internet and even SD TV can be watched with no problem.

Ok, now after 10 more minutes, suddenly another 1GB file has been transferred. But 10 minutes per GB is less than 2MB a second.

Petz, I realize this is kind of late but I was never able to get this to work either. I had a 2tb drive and any time I tried to transfer a file over I would loose the connection. The usb port on these routers are crud and wont work for that.
