Access Control Policies IP Ranges?

Hi,

I'm trying to block internet access to a range of IP addresses using the Access Control function of the DIR-655 router. Unfortunately, the router does not allow me to block a range of IPs. Instead, I can only create policies based upon individual IPs or MAC addresses. I have over 60 machines I want to block Internet access and I'd hate to have to type them in individually. How do I go about blocking all Internet access (HTTP/FTP/email/everything) for a range of IP addresses? They will have to be able to continue to use the internal LAN.

How do I do this?

If you have over 60 machines the 655 is not the right router for you.  Its meant as a Home router, if you have that many machines to control you should look for a Business or Enterprise model.  Also the 655 has a limited number of addresses that you can apply the filter to.

I'm not trying to troll but I have bought cheaper older routers in the past that can do this basic function of blocking Internet access to a range of IPs. So, just seems weird I can't do it on an expensive router such as this one.

But if there is no way, I guess I'll go downgrade to a cheaper router.

Have the same problem, here's what you do.

Put a policy in place for every computer not in the range. Then put up a new policy with "other machines", that will include all other machines not already included in a policy. That should cover your range. But only one range.

Not sure of what happens if you remove a policy.

And yes my old Linksys router could easily block ranges, I am disappointed with Dlinks lack of support for this feature.
