DIR-615 Intermittant Internet Connectivity
« on: January 15, 2010, 09:26:29 AM »

My DLink DIR-615 will not stay connected to the cable modem and internet. I have to constantly release and renew my DHCP address on the router inorder to restore access back to the internet. I have RoadRunner Cable Modem SB4200. I can connect my pc directly to the cable modem and go days no issues but as soon as I put the router inline even cloning the pc's mac address as soon as we get any real traffic going like a download or a speedtest the connection dies. I can no longer access the Internet nor the Cable Modem directly. I changed out the cable modem and its the same issue. I reset the dlink router multiple times and reconfigured and get the same.

Has anyone else experienced this and have you found a resolution?

Does the dir-615 get a private IP from your modem ( uncommon for cable ) or a public IP from your ISP ( common ). If it gets an IP from your ISP then their support will be able to check some logs to see if any IP revocation is actually occuring (probably not). Therefore is really sounds like your connection between the router and cable modem is becoming saturated. Could be a faulty cable or connector, or it could even be the MTU settings. Most of the 615's default to 1500, typical for ethernet. But your ISP may be different and you would need to know what they use so you can set the right MTU.
