PC Shareport problems only with a wireless connection!
« on: January 17, 2010, 12:42:05 PM »

I've had problems with a DIR-655 and Shareport v1.1 since last year, but finally seem to be getting a system close to operational.

I am able to print and scan from the MAC wireless connection, and also from the PC WIRED connection. This is already quite good (although I have not established the stability yet).

Unfortunately, with the PC wireless connection, while I can see the USB devices and their status, I cannot successfully connect. With both the SX and the Shareport software the message 'Connecting to X, please wait...' appears when a connection is attempted. With the wireless connection the shareport times out after ~30s (good idea), while the SX software continues looking (for ever?) until the wired connection is made.

As I can connect fine with the MAC wireless connection, it seems reasonable that this could be an XP wireless setup issue (or should I suspect the firmware again?). My PC wireless connection is otherwise working perfectly well.

I'm loathe to try another firmware until I see positive feedback, particularly as this setup is 'almost' working... Suggestions on possible solutions would be welcome.

I too have the same issue.  HP DV-7, vista home 64 bit,  with a realtek gb card, intel agn100 wireless.

DIR-825 A1 with 1.12 NA newest firmware, installed shareport.  The printer showed up as a device once I restarted the printer.

If my laptop is hooked up via lan cable to the router, I can click on "Connect" and the device goes from available to connected, with a green checkmark.  Prints fine.

If I click disconnnect, unplug and go wireless, the device is still listed even after a refresh, but clicking on connect gives me the "connecting to....xxxxx..please wait" for about 20 seconds and the device remains at available, never connects.

Now, i just tried connecting from my XP Pro desktop in the other room that has a liksys usb antenna, and that connected NO PROBLEM.

so the issue is either a vista or wireless adapter setting, right?

well, I should say that the laptop is on 5ghz N and the desktop adapters is 2.4 G, so I'm going to test that too.  maybe the settings in the router are different.  I'll connect the laptop to the 2.4 and see what happens.

results!  well somehow I couldn't get the printer to show up at all, but I just reloaded my saved settings and there it was again.

Anyway, disconnected the laptop from 5ghz, reconnected at 2.4 and VOILA the device connected within 3 seconds, with the green check mark.  now, I haven't been able to check long-term connectivity, whcih I know has been an issue, but this laptop was getting hung up on even connecting.

now, whether the issues is the router's 5 ghx settings or this intel 5100AGN's, I'll have to start checking.

well, the only difference I found between the two was in the advanced>advanced wireless tab.   2.4 has WMM NOT checked, and WMM was checked for 5ghz.  I deselected WMM and saved, and the 5ghz doesn't work AT ALL now.  when I put it back to checked, it works again, but shareport still won't connect.

But shareport still connects via 2.4, even tho wmm is not checked in 2.4 settings.

I, too have issue only with wireless laptop.   My shareport setup is manual at this time on both laptop and hardwired desktop.   Have Trend Micro Internet Security Pro 2010 on both machines.   Have found that turning the laptop TM Personal Firewall off (thereby falling back to Windows firewall), allows the shareport connection to complete without timing out.   Once the connection is established, I can re-activate the TM Personal Firewall, and continue printing.   I have tried to allow connect.exe in the TM firewall setup with no success.   Curious to find out if other users of different antivirus or firewall softwares have same result.
