Can't Restore config File with New 1.33NA FW
« on: January 29, 2010, 09:38:34 PM »

Just upgraded to 1.33NA from 1.32NA. I made a backup of the configuration before the upgrade. Now, when I attempt to restore the config file, I get this error:

"The restored configuration file is not correct. You may have restored a settings file that contains one or more values that are out of the valid range permitted for this release."

Any ideas on how to restore my settings?

It's possible your backup may be corrupted. You may have to manually restore your settings.

That's always a possibility but not likely in this case. I saved the config twice and neither will load.

Wow, it looks like manual setting of the router is your only option at this point.

Do you have your router set up to use https: ?  There was a thread on here about config not restoring when using https:

No secure http settings. I just re-entered all my settings. Since I didn't have anything complex, it only took 5 minutes. Someone who has lots of configurations changes may want to keep this in mind before upgrading.

D-Link should offer an option to save the config fil as a text file.

D-Link should offer an option to save the config fil as a text file.

Will not happen. The router OS is not OpenSource and encrypted. Config file in text format will void this.

When I upgraded, all of my setting were unchanged so no need to reload config.
After the upgrade is when I made a new backup file.

Same here. No need to reconfigure or restore saved config.

What about upgrading from 1.21 to 1.33NA?  Will the router settings stay the same?

Strange. My upgrade wiped out my settings. Even had to login with UID as admin and the default blank password.

Nope. New config (manual) necessary.
It's advised to do this manually for every firmware stepping. One wrong bit and you're toast, and 1.2x files are unuseable when going to 1.3x. They can cause endless reboot loop situations.

Does that mean I would lose the wireless access key I have set up for my laptop to access the router?  Would I have to re-create my wireless network?

Yes. But with WPS this should be a piece of cake.
