DIR-655 bricked
« on: January 31, 2010, 06:50:56 AM »

I own a DIR-655 that was bought last december and that has stopped working. I had an HP printer (5600) connected to the USB port and three computers connected to LAN1-3. On WAN port I had the cable modem. Several other computers used WIFI LAN. One night, for no apparent reason, it's stopped working.

Only WAN and LAN1 leds light up. Computers on LAN1, however can't get an IP through DHCP. Assigning a manual static IP address (e.g. 192.168.0.100) doesn't work either. I've tried to reset using the various procedures that can be found in the forum and none worked.

Unfortunately, returning the device is out of question. I tried to contact tech support to get and RMA, but they're asking for invoice number. The router was bought at Amazon and they won't provide a numbered invoice listing the router and its S/N, virtually rendering the warranty void.

F/W ver. is 1.21 (I haven't reflashed) and H/W ver. is A4 (rev. A1). I stumbled upon this: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r22156651-Info-Bricked-DIR655-reboot-loop-fixed , but my H/W ver. doesn't have MINI-PCI card, so I cound't try to boot the router without the WIFI circuit.

It's interesting, though, that WAN/LAN1 seem to work despite not establishing a network properly and assigning IP addresses. I've run Wireshark and there's packets coming from the router. Despite that, could the router be in some sort of maintenance/safe mode? Is there anyway to perhaps reflash it through LAN1? I would appreciate anyone who can shed a light on this issue.

Thanks.
