SLOW FILE TRANSFER

Okay so I can't seem to send files via AIM any faster than 64kb even though my upload speed is like 6mb and my friends send me files using the same version of AIM at over 100kbs etc so is there some setting I need to change to fix this? I tried port forwarding, but it didn't change anything at all. Thanks in advance.

Perhaps an AIM server issue... They are in between.

Yeah but it's exactly 64 kbs every single time I upload even though other people can go beyond that limit it's a personal issue with my outgoing file transfer.

There's more AIM servers to connect to...

If FTP or HTTP file transfers also show the same defect it is network related, which does not automatically mean it's a router issue

Well I don't know for sure, but is there any settings beyond default I should change to open things up? I feel like I'm being restricted when connecting to someone else. Should I upgrade firmware? I'm using 1.21 right now.

Remove the router from the equation.

Connect directly to your cable modem, if you can.

Are you using Wireless? connect directly to an ethernet port.

I use AIM and have no problems sending files at my max upload speed (~2Mps)

Which version of AIM do you use? If it's not my router any idea what else it could be? What's your AIM bro?

I use 5.9 and 7.1, the latest from www.aim.com.

Both work.

I like 5.9 because my buddies can "Get File" (works like ftp) on my screen name and DL anything they want. Both sides need to use 5.9.

I use 7.1 just cuz it is new, but you can only "Send files" to other buddies, they can't "Get file"

Yeah I have version 5.9 and so do most of my friends. I just did a firmware upgrade to 133NA and virtually no difference with anything. I can't figure out for the life of me why it goes so slow on AIM. I don't have a firewall on and even if it was AIM is allowed. I also tried port forwarding, but nada. What OS do you use? There has to be something I can fix.

I use XP with 5.9, version 7.1 I use Vista x86(desktop) and x64(laptop).

Run TCPOptimizer to make sure your connection is wide open. Reboot.
You didn't mention if you are trying to do this wirelessly, but make sure you can get a 300Mps connection.

If you can try pinging the AIM servers, it just might be your geographic location or your neighborhood.

I'm not really sure how to use this program though? Do I click optimize settings and apply?

And my connection is wired/ethernet.

If you have Vista or Win 7 you do not need the optimizer as these OS's are already optimized for broadband.

Yep. You'll only mess things up. Althought you could always try to disable the new automatic TCP settings (commandline).

Are you sure your upload is that high?

I have cable and mine is 12Mbps down/2Mbps up.

Do a speed test to find out for sure.
