First a little background on PCs and my setup. I live in a 2-storey house. I mainly use 2 computers, 1 which is on the second floor in a bedroom at the very front of the house (office). The second is on the main floor at the very back of the house (living room). The modem is wired to the router (615) wired to a desktop in the office. A laptop is used mainly in the living room wirelessly. I have a 900MHZ baby monitor that we’ve recently started using, the 2.4GHZ 615 router and a 5.8GHZ cordless phone.
I have had the DIR-615 for the past year or so. Speed tests on the desktop have always shown 4500kbps download and 680kbps upload speeds. I have always been able to get the exact same speed wirelessly on the laptop in the living room.
Recently when I use the laptop in the living room (desktop is off) the speed has dropped to maybe 50% of what it was before and has been intermittent where it drops and sometimes I can’t get it back unless I reboot the laptop or router. When the desktop is on, the wireless signal is very erratic and the rate drops to 5-50% of what I was getting before. Pinging 192.168.0.1 (router address) is high (definitely not 0 or <1ms where it should be) and sometimes times out. The desktop works as it should while all these wireless issues are happening. I just checked the stats and there are errors in wireless, but no where else. I’m not sure what that means. Stats below. What can be causing this problem? I have tried changing the channel, changing the security mode, changing the mode (B/G/N or combinations), no luck. I’ve also tried changing channels on the baby monitor, no luck. I’ve also moved and turned off the baby monitor to see if that’s the problem but no change.
Thanks.
