Wired Use Knocks Wireless Offline
« on: February 07, 2010, 01:50:30 PM »

I have a DIR-825 connected to the cable modem, TiVo and a desktop, then a DAP-1522 which is wired to another desktop and a 360. Both the DIR and the DAP are running the latest firmware.

Whenever someone starts to use the wired desktop after a period of inactivity, all wireless devices (everything on the DAP-1522) loses connectivity, lasts for 30-60 seconds, then everything comes back online. Everything remains fine until the wired desktop is idle for a while and then someone uses it again, then problem repeats. But it is also not universal- it doesn't always knock the wireless offline, but often does.

I am not sure if this is related to the DNS Relay issue or not. My option to uncheck "Enable DNS Relay" is disabled.

What H/W and F/W version please...

The reason your "Enable DNS Relay" is grayed out(disabled to modification) and you can't seem to disable DNS Relay is Advanced DNS Service is enabled which requires DNS Relay to be on, once you disable Advanced DNS Service, DNS Relay will now allow disabling. To find it look under Internet Setup.

DIR-825 A1, Firmware: 1.13NA
DAP-1522 A1, Firmware: 1.21

I will try disabling the DNS Relay and see if that is the solution.

DNS Relay should be fixed in 1.13 firmware, it shouldn't change anything turning it off. Try resetting the router to defaults, then manually redo configuration don't load a previous saved config.

Is the DAP-1522 setup as a bridge or AP? There is a manual switch on the DAP-1522 that you can select AP, bridge, or auto. Your problem might be the auto setting, try to set it to what you're using it for.

    * Access Point (AP) Allows wifi devices to use the DAP-1522 to connect to your wired network - if DAP-1522 is wired to the router, the DAP-1522 can have wireless clients connect to it.

    * Bridge Allows wired devices to connect to your wifi network through the DAP-1522 - wireless from router to DAP-1522, then everything connecting to bridge must be wired. Meaning anything wireless at all must connect to the DIR-825 wireless not the DAP-1522.
