Problem hosting game
« on: February 08, 2010, 12:03:05 PM »

For some reason I cannot host a Call of Duty 4 dedicated server unless I reboot my router before launching the application.

I recently purchased a DGL-4500 to replace my 4300 but have been having the problem since day one. The firmware has been 1.15 till yesterday when I upgraded to 1.22NA. With 1.15 the problem was the same and I tried to mess with most settings in the router to resolve the issue so I was left with upgrading the firmware as a last resort but still have the problem.

When I was using the 4300 there was no problem. I setup the ports in the "Game" tab under "Advanced" and it worked flawlessly everytime. With the 4500 I basically have the settings mirrored from the old router and regardless I have to reboot the router when I want to host.

Now, if I reboot the router once that allows me to turn the server on and off at my leisure generally for the reset of the evening. It's when I shut the server down for the night and come back in a day or two to bring it back up that is the problem. I have to reboot the router again and am good for the night.

The server is being run through my old laptop (Dell XPS Gen 2) and is only up as a private server when I know my friends want it.

Anyone else have this issue, be it with COD or any other game?

I've been play MW2 for the past couple of weeks however I'm not hosting games or unless I start on on XBL. It's been working well for me. However you might want to take a look at the Gaming and Gamefuel settings posted here. I wrote those up for Halo games however I haven't changed any settings when i bought MW2. There could be some settings that you might want to try out and see if that helps. Maybe the Mfr of the game or others on there site could have info about using ports and setting up routers to work if your hosting a game server.

Yeah, I have checked around on the ports and even run the router in DMZ for the IP that is hosting. Everything works fine unless I leave the server off for a couple days and try to restart it. If I do a simple reboot of the router without changing a single setting, it works fine.

Hmm, interesting that seems to be loosing previous connection status. I would direct your question to one of the moderators on here or get a hold of DLink, 2nd Level tech support maybe and ask.
