Printer SD Card Problems
« on: February 08, 2010, 03:51:46 PM »

Hi Guys,

Have had my NAS for about 2 weeks now and after some initial teething problems, all going well now with the exception of one thing. I have connected my printer (Epson RX-650) to the 323 and setup as a Printer Server. This printer has ports on the front for different cards (SD etc). Before I connected the printer to the NAS, I would simply plug in the SD card and it would appear in My Computer with a drive letter assigned. This is now not happening - the card is being read by the printer but I do not know how to access it. There is no entry under My Computer. I've searched around but cannot find a solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Typically, printers on a print server support the print only function, not any other functions.  That's true of multi-function printer-scanner devices, the scanner is not supported.

Thanks for that - so if I want to keep of of the other functionality available with the printer, I'm best removing it from the NAS? Are any other devices supported via the USB port on the 323?

At this time the only devices supported via the USB port are a printer (print functionality only) and a UPS (for unattended shutdown of the NAS) - this could change in the future as I believe the current 1.08 beta firmware includes a "shareport" add on.
