DGL-4500 Blocked Voip? ICMP type 3 Packets
« on: February 04, 2008, 09:25:01 AM »

Here is the question.
[INFO] Sun Feb 03 15:19:50 2008 Blocked outgoing ICMP packet (ICMP type 3) from 192.168.0.5 to 221.6.145.18

Is this blocking VOIP?
I can hook up my voip ata directly to the cable modem and she works. Send and recieves calls.
Once I hook it back up to the Router, no go... not even a dial tone.

How and what do I have to configure in the router to make voip DOT com to work?

Thanks.

What is the model of the voip adapter that you are using?? Who is your carrier?

I have tried two - sent from the company:
Handytone Grandstream 286 & 386

I have also tried the S u n Rocket model AC-211-SR
That gives me a dialtone at least, but the same error status.
And no calling out or in.

I am using a arris cable modem...
If I could get into that I would try that one.

I just called mediacom and they confirmed that all is working and that they see a clear-fast path to that *new* modem.
Curious since the voip adaptor works if I plug it directly to the arris cable modem.
When I plug it into the DGL-4500 the ata will not register to voip.com

OK Dlink guys and gals...
Please help me with this. Man I am running out of patience. This router seems like it is a piece of...
Well, after posting and reading some here, here is the scoop.
I hooked up the old netgear router and voip runs just fine.
I tried hooking up the Dlink to the Netgear, all correct non overlapping ip addresses...no go. would not take the ip address.
I then hooked the Dlink back up to the cable modem... connected to internet.
Download the beta 102ms firmware and rebooted to factory defaults...
Still voip is no go!

WHAT THE AECH EEEE DOUBLE TOOTHPICKS IS blocking this voip ata?

Can we get some help?

Comon Dlink!
I am going to have to request a refund if this router does not work correctly.

Why is it blocking the voip?
I have tried your new beta firmware. I have tried resetting to factory defaults.
I have tried other suggestions in these posts.

Why does YOUR routers BLOCK voip?

Can you go in and check the configurations?

The router itself is working faster than the netgear router and that part seems really cool about this router.
But hooking up my phone to it does not work...the main reason why I got a router that would be sensitive to these type of demanding packets...

Please help.
I have to go away for the next two days. Please try and figure something out.
I'll try to keep checking these posts.

Ok let me see if I can explain this. The ICMP Type 3 messages are not your VoIP packets. An ICMP type 3 Message is a destination host unreachable message. Now, if the router is somehow blocking traffic to the IPs that are reflected in the type 3 messages, we can take a look at that. I need to know more about the carrier, the voip device and the codec that you are running.

As a side note: I understand you are frustrated, please remember there are many of you, and few of us at this level of support. We are working as diligently as we can to assist you in your time of need. Please do not allow your return "window" to lapse, in the event that we can not Correct this issue without a firmware upgrade.

I'm also getting these messages according to the logs in my DGL-4500.
It definitely has something to do with my VoIP(ZyXel Prestige P2035) but it doesn't affect my Incoming or Outgoing calls.
(Note: ZyXel Prestige also has it's own firewall that's enabled)
My lag isn't affected either so I don't notice anything with these messages other than flooding my logs.

I'll post more info when I get home from work.

Like I said, the type 3 message is standard.
Did we ever get any info on the codec in use?

Codec? Hmmm...
I believe i see Codec: G711U

Thanks for narrowing it down that the ICMP is not the problem.
Franklin knew many ways alight bulk would not work until he got the final solution.

There is a solution for this right?
So, today I have new status:

1. hooked up router to cabel modem box.
2. hooked up voip adaptor to router
3. no dial tone
4. Can place a call! Go figure.
5. cannot call IN - no ringing, no way..

So that leads me to believe that something is blocking incoming?
Hence no dial tone because it is not able to provision properly with voip.com

Also note that it did provision with the Netgear router jsut fine, got a dialtone and could call in and out.
This DGL-4500 blocks something.

I am hear all day today, do you want access into the router?
Let me know, I'll provide a phone number to call as well.

Thanks for your help.

Set a static ip address on the voip device 192.168.0.99
Then forward all necessary ports as per your VOIP provider to 192.168.0.99
Also another easy fix, you could set static 192.168.0.99 (voip device) and then place ip 192.168.0.99 in the DMZ.

Been there done that.
Any other ideas?
That should have cleared the way for ALL information to that device... no go.

voip dot com is saying that the ICMP type 3 packets are indeed the voip communications.
You guys say they are not!
What is the truth?
Either way, THIS ROUTER IS BLOCKING THE VOIP INFORMATION FROM GOING THRU.
I have set it up on the DMZ and it is still blocking voip traffic.

Nice. Well, not nice, but you guys get it right?
